Hated by many for being anti-masculine and depicting men as misogynist bullies harassing women and training young boys to do the same. The company claims to be "The best a man can get", but they'd rather virtue signal, lecture and alienate their target audience with social justice and third-wave-feminism nonsense. Gone are the days of razor commercial showing how well they cut hair. Honestly, what does the MeToo movement, the second words spoken in the ad, have to do with shaving?
At no point in this horrible excuse for a
razor ad was a razor even shown. They instead opted to show scenes like:
- Fathers allowing their kids to fight and saying, "Boys will be boys." Which never happens, at least not to any guys I know.
- A male boss putting his hand on a woman's shoulder in a meeting and say, “What I actually think she's trying to say...” Zero context was given, so who knows what that one was about.
- And what was probably the stupidest scene showing an attractive female walking down the street and a man going to approach her before being stopped by another guy who says, "Bro, not cool. Not cool." for some reason.
Not one scene was well thought-out. They were
all either nonsense, sexist or a combination of the two. Implying that, despite
evidence to the contrary, women don't bully, harass and fight each other.
'Toxic Masculinity' is a term that people
seem to use to describe anything that men do which they disagree with and yet could
never define.
Going with the definition that 'Toxic
Masculinity' is basically traditional masculine qualities such being dominant,
assertive and having increased aggression in comparison to the average female,
but unchecked and pushed to 11.
That's not the same as 'Masculinity' which
they try so hard to vilify. Ironically, the best way to counter that form of
toxic masculinity is to have more fathers present. 23% of American children
live with a single mother and without a strong male presence to guide young
men, they could end up with what some call 'Toxic Masculinity'.
So, what Gillette doesn't understand is,
the best a can be is a husband and a father.
But of course, many mainstream media
outlets are beyond ecstatic to see their agenda pushed on every possible
platform.
Keep in mind, all of this is from the same
company who charges women more for pink versions of their normal razors in what
some call the 'pink tax'.
and objectify women's bodies to sell products...
More about that here.
People like Ilan Srulovicz, the CEO of
Egard Watches, decided to stand up to Gillette by portraying men in a positive
light and giving actual statistical data instead of demonising them and blaming
them for the actions of a few bad apples. The video titled "What is a man?
A response to Gillette" show the side of being a man that nobody talks
about because it doesn't fit their narrative of the ever elusive but ever
present patriarchy.
Saying in an interview with Fox News, "How do you effect positive change? You show the best of us."
Domestic Violence Australia also made a
video in which they spoke about toxic femininity, also giving statistical data.
I was a huge fan of Gillette. I used their Mach3®
Turbo before moving on to the Fusion Proglide Styler. It’s a shame what’s
happening to them… I just want to be able to shave without being told that my
masculinity is bad.
