Alabama Passes Bill to Chemical Castrate Child Sex Offenders (as condition of parole)



Bill HB 379, which was introduced by Republican state Representative Steve Hurst, R-Calhoun County requires child sex offenders over the age of 21 whose case involves anyone under the age of 13 to undergo chemical castration (which uses drugs to suppress someone's libido by affecting hormones) before being released from prison is awaiting the signature of Alabama's Governor, Kay Ivey (R) for it to become law.

Former 'Ars Technica' Technology Editor Peter Bright

Peter Bright, 38, a reporter and Technology Editor for Ars Technica (who’s since been firedhas been arrested and charged with attempting to solicit sex minors online.


According to a federal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Mr. Bright met with an undercover FBI special agent for the purpose of molesting a 7-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy.
He was arrested on May 22nd and charged with one count of attempted enticement of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity and is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan without bail on the grounds of “risk of danger”.
